Being More Social and Engaging

There are some great health benefits to being social. People with more social support tend to live longer than those who are more isolated, they are better able to fight off colds, the flu, and even some types of cancer, and it boosts feelings of well-being and decreases feelings of depression.

Here are some ideas:

  • Catch up with family and friends though visits, telephone calls, or social media
  • Walk through your neighborhood regularly and get to know your neighbors
  • Sign up for classes
  • Attend religious services
  • Volunteer
  • Join a club, gym, or sports league
